Fujifilm X-T5 Review: The APS-C Camera That Beats Full-Frame
40MP, IBIS, and tactile dials in a camera small enough to take everywhere. The X-T5 is the photographer's photography camera.

Overview
Fuji went back to basics with the X-T5. They dropped the video-first reshape of the X-H2 and rebuilt a stills-centric body around the new 40MP X-Trans sensor.
Image quality
40MP on APS-C is dense but Fuji's color science makes it sing. The Film Simulations (Classic Chrome, Acros, Reala Ace) genuinely reduce my Lightroom time to near zero.
Handling
Dedicated shutter, ISO, and exposure-comp dials. Three-way tilt screen instead of the polarizing flip-out. This camera invites you to slow down.
Autofocus
Much better than older Fujis. Subject detection covers people, animals, birds, cars, trains, planes. Not quite Sony or Canon level but a non-issue for stills.
Verdict
If you'd rather shoot than tinker, and want files that look great straight out of camera, the X-T5 is hard to beat for $1,700.
What we love
- ✓Stunning 40MP files
- ✓In-body stabilization (7 stops)
- ✓Tactile dial-driven controls
- ✓Film Simulations are unmatched
Where it falls short
- –AF still trails Sony/Canon on fast action
- –Video is a step back from X-H2
- –No CFexpress slot
FAQ
X-T5 or X-H2 — which one?
X-T5 for stills and travel. X-H2 if you shoot video professionally.
Is 40MP overkill on APS-C?
It demands sharp glass. Pair it with Fuji's red-badge primes or the 16-55mm f/2.8 II.
Does it work for sports?
Casual sports yes. For pro sports go Sony A9 III or Canon R3.
